Background of Tan Sri Dato' Khalid Ibrahim

Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Khalid completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at University of Queensland(UQ) in 1976 and carries the "Tan Sri" title, which is equivalent to a knighthood. He is a past president of the Malaysian Alumni Association and Group Chief Executive Officer of Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad ,one of the largest firms listed on the Malaysian Stock Exchange. In 2002, he was named UQ's inaugural International Alumnus of the Year. In 2003, he was the UQ Business School's Executive-in-Residence, delivering lectures on his company's strategies. The Kumpulan Guthrie Group was first listed on the Stock Exchange in 1989 and has since embarked on an aggressive expansion campaign through the acquisition of interests in plantations, property developments and manufacturing throughout Asia. Tan Sri Khalid has been at the helm overseeing the group's strategy and integrating Western banking and finance strategy with the Asian business culture. He recently completed his stay as a visiting fellow specialising in Islamic finance and the capital market at the Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies, at Oxford University.
